Q: Can RustArmour be top-coated?
A: Yes, it can be topcoated, although for many applications RustArmour can be a standalone product and there is no need for additional protection. For other applications involving more intense exposure to UV light an application of a highly durable topcoat may be used. RustArmour provides an excellent base for most colored oil based, latex and water-based paints.

Q: What are available colors?
A: Currently RustArmour is available in white, black, grey or taupe.

Q: Can RustArmour be applied to clean metal surfaces?
A: RustArmour will tenaciously adhere to fresh metal (steel or aluminum, sanded or blasted), lightly rusted metal surfaces, pretreated metal surfaces as well as to metals that have been cleaned to remove rust.

Q: How does RustArmour compare with other coatings for rusty metal?
A: RustArmour outperforms leading rust preventive coatings on the market today. Other rust encapsulating coatings requires extensive surface preparation to provide even marginal performance. After aggressive exposure testing in high humidity, high temperature and corrosive environments, RustArmour surpasses the competition. Exposure to harsh chemicals has little or no effect on RustArmour. Rust Armour provides excellent corrosion resistance for 2,000 or more hours of exposure to ASTM B117 salt fog, where competitive materials fail in 500 hours or less.

Q: How long does RustArmour take to dry?
A: RustArmour dries in a day or less depending on temperature. RustArmour will dry more quickly at higher temperatures (80° F and higher). It may dry more slowly at temperatures lower than 60 F. To ensure maximum performance, it is recommended that RustArmour be allowed to dry for a least 48-72 hours before top-coating with optimum performance, cure times of 7 days are recommended as crosslinking continues for a week or more.

Q: Can I apply more than one coat of RustArmour for extra protection?
A: Yes, in fact, the performance of RustArmour will improve with the addition of a second coat, especially if the metal profile is particularly rough and scaly. A second coat will help to fill and level the metal surface to enhance performance. Accordingly best performance is achieved when the dry film thickness is in the range of 4 – 5 mils.

Q: What are general application areas for RustArmour?
A: Protective coatings for use over heavy duty maintenance, bridges, industrial applications, rust encapsulation, automotive refinish and restoration as well as product finishing. For product finishing RustArmour can be baked to accelerate cure and provide premium performance for corrosion and chemical resistance when compared to conventional product finishes.

Q: How can RustArmour be applied?
A: Common methods include brush, roller or spray. Normally RustArmour is packaged at a spray viscosity.

Q: Can I use body filler or putty with RustArmour?
A: Yes, it can be used over RustArmour, once it’s completely dry.

Q: What is the best surface profile for the application of RustArmour?
A: RustArmour adheres best to surfaces with a high surface area such as those including sanded or sandblasted metal or even lightly rusted surfaces. Properly cleaned and pretreated metal also provides a surface that performs well with RustArmour.
